The story
Specialty Tax Desk exists because CPA firms are leaving real money on the table — not from lack of care, but from lack of bandwidth. Most firms don't have an in-house R&D or Cost Segregation specialist, and building that capability from scratch isn't realistic for a practice already stretched thin during tax season. Ron James built Specialty Tax Desk to close that gap: give firms the same specialty tax capability the largest players have, without hiring a single specialist.

Before Specialty Tax Desk, Ron served as SVP of Operations at Innovation Refunds, where he helped scale a specialty tax platform to over $1 billion in revenue — building the national customer success organization and the operational systems behind it. Before that, he spent over a decade at H&R Block, where he oversaw 300+ tax offices across seven states, managed a $90 million P&L with 3,000+ employees, and built and launched Block Advisors, H&R Block's service line for small businesses. Earlier in his career, he held operations leadership roles at Walmart and Best Buy.
